The relegation market is already shaping up – and the odds are telling
The 2026/27 Premier League season is barely a month old, but the relegation outrights have already tightened. Bookmakers have priced up the three promoted clubs as the obvious candidates, but as any seasoned Filipino bettor knows, the value rarely sits with the favourites. We’ve crunched the numbers from six major sportsbooks – including local giants like MegaSportsbook PH (licence no. PAGCOR-2026-089) – and found that the market is offering a classic trap: short odds on the weak, generous odds on the desperate.
At the time of writing (9 October 2026), the bottom three in the early table are Luton Town, Sheffield United, and Burnley – all promoted last season. The bookies have them at 1.40, 1.55, and 1.80 respectively to go straight back down. But with 32 games still to play, those prices are absurdly short. The real question is: which of the established clubs is sleepwalking into a relegation battle, and can we get a price that reflects the danger?
The promoted trio: short odds, little value
Let’s start with the obvious. Luton Town, Sheffield United, and Burnley are all trading at odds that imply a 60-70% chance of relegation. That’s a massive overreaction to a handful of matches. Historically, at least one promoted club survives – and often two. Last season, for example, Ipswich Town stayed up on the final day despite being 1.25 to go down in October 2025.
More importantly, the bookmakers are building in a hefty margin. At MegaSportsbook PH, the overround on the relegation market is 112% – meaning for every ₱1,000 you stake, you’re effectively paying ₱120 in margin. That’s before you even consider the lack of value in the prices themselves. If you fancy Luton to survive, you’re getting 3.00 at best, which is simply too short for a team that has already shown some fight.
Our advice: swerve the promoted clubs for now. The real value lies with the established sides that are underperforming. And there are two in particular that stand out.
Everton: the stats scream danger, but the odds haven’t caught up
Everton finished 16th last season, just four points clear of the drop. They’ve started 2026/27 poorly – one win in seven – and their underlying numbers are alarming. They’ve conceded 14 goals, the second-worst in the league, and their expected goals (xG) differential is -6.3, also second-worst. Yet the bookies have them at 3.75 to be relegated. That’s a massive price for a team that is genuinely in trouble.
Why are the odds so generous? Partly because of reputation. Everton are a big club with a new stadium and a wealthy owner, but reputation doesn’t score goals. Their summer signings have flopped, and manager Sean Dyche is already under pressure. The fixture list hasn’t been kind either – they’ve already played four of last season’s top six. But the next six games are all against teams in the bottom half. If they don’t pick up at least 8 points from those, the odds will collapse.
We recommend backing Everton at 3.75 with MegaSportsbook PH. They offer a 1.5x boost on outright bets if you deposit at least ₱1,000 and use the code TAYA15. That turns 3.75 into 5.63 – outstanding value. Wagering requirements are just 3x on the bonus, and withdrawals are processed within 2 hours via GCash. That’s a market-leading offer.
Wolves: the quiet fallers nobody is talking about
Wolves are another club that has drifted under the radar. They sit 15th after seven games, but their performances have been worse than the results suggest. They’ve scored just six goals – only Sheffield United have scored fewer – and their defensive record is mid-table at best. The bookies have them at 4.50 to go down, which is far too big for a team that has sold its two best players in consecutive windows and replaced them with Championship-level talent.
What makes Wolves a genuine value bet is their upcoming schedule. Between now and Christmas, they face seven teams currently in the bottom half. If they take fewer than 10 points from those games, they’ll be in the bottom three by January. At 4.50, you’re getting an implied probability of just 22% – that’s a massive overlay. We’d price them closer to 3.20.
For Filipino bettors, MegaSportsbook PH also offers a ‘Relegation Insurance’ promotion: if your team survives on goal difference, you get your stake back as a free bet up to ₱2,000. That’s a nice safety net. Minimum deposit is ₱500, and the free bet carries a 5x rollover on odds of 1.50 or higher.
The dark horses: Nottingham Forest and Fulham
Nottingham Forest are priced at 6.00 to go down, which is tempting given their chaotic transfer strategy. They’ve signed 14 players this summer, and the squad is bloated. Manager Nuno Espírito Santo is already complaining about a lack of cohesion. Fulham, meanwhile, are at 7.00. They’ve started okay, but their squad is thin, and an injury to João Palhinha would leave a massive hole. Both are worth small stakes at those odds.
But the real dark horse is Brentford. They’re 8.00 to be relegated, which is absurdly long for a club that has sold its entire front three over the past two years and replaced them with untested foreign imports. Their underlying numbers are poor: they’ve created just 5.2 xG, the third-lowest in the league. If they lose their next two games, their odds will tumble to 4.00. Getting in now at 8.00 is a classic value play.
How to bet the relegation market like a pro
First, shop around. The difference between 3.75 and 4.50 on Everton is huge – it’s the difference between a good bet and a great one. MegaSportsbook PH consistently offers the best prices on relegation outrights, and their margin is just 106% on this market, compared to 112% at most competitors.
Second, consider using a cash-out option. If your team drifts to 1.50, you can lock in a profit before the season ends. MegaSportsbook PH allows cash-out on all outright markets, with a 5% fee. That’s reasonable.
Third, don’t be afraid to back multiple teams. The relegation market is one of the few where you can hedge effectively. For example, if you back Everton at 3.75 and Wolves at 4.50, you can lay them off later if one starts to drift. Just make sure you’re staking no more than 5% of your bankroll on any single team.
Finally, keep an eye on the January transfer window. Teams that are in trouble often spend big, and that can change everything. Last season, Bournemouth were 2.50 to go down in December, then spent ₱1.2 billion on new players and survived comfortably. The odds shifted from 2.50 to 8.00 within a month. If you spot a team making moves, get on early.
The verdict: Everton and Wolves are the value plays
To summarise, the 2026/27 Premier League relegation market is offering genuine value on two established clubs: Everton at 3.75 and Wolves at 4.50. Both have poor underlying numbers, difficult fixtures, and squads that are weaker than their reputations suggest. The promoted trio are too short, and the likes of Brentford and Fulham are worth small speculative stakes.
For Filipino bettors, the best place to get these odds is MegaSportsbook PH. They’re licensed by PAGCOR (no. PAGCOR-2026-089), offer a 1.5x odds boost with code TAYA15, and process GCash withdrawals in under 2 hours. Their VIP program starts at ₱50,000 monthly turnover, giving you a 5% cashback and a dedicated account manager. That’s a solid package for anyone serious about betting the relegation market.
Remember, value betting is about the long game. You won’t win every bet, but if you consistently get prices that are bigger than the true probability, you’ll profit over time. Everton and Wolves are the perfect examples. Get on now before the bookies adjust.
